Development and Use of Prediction Models for Classification of Cardiovascular Risk of Remote Indigenous Australians
Early prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is recognised to be crucial for Indigenous populations given their substantially higher CVD risk compared to non-Indigenous people. The excess CVD risk among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians is largely due to the high prevalence of traditional CVD risk factors, such as hypertension and diabetes. In addition, other highly prevalent risk factors such as albuminuria have also been shown to be associated with CVD in Indigenous Australians.
