CONNECTING TO COUNTRY: AN AUSTRALIAN INDIGENOUS METAGENOMICS STRATEGY, ENVIRONMENTAL SCAN, AND RESEARCH GAP REPORT

This report is part of the Australian Government’s Connecting to Country: An Australian Indigenous Metagenomics Strategy project, and presents the environmental scan and gap analysis components of the project. Its purpose is to assist the Indigenous Australian Genomics Committee (the Committee) of the Commonwealth Department of Health in identifying current research, clinical services and consumer engagement activities in the genomics field that are of relevance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It also identifies the gaps in research, services and activities where increased attention would benefit Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The intent of the report is to provide an understanding of key past, present and planned Indigenous genomics work nationally and internationally, and to highlight where further work is needed. This information will help the Committee to develop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander component of the Genomics Implementation Plan.
